CRUISIN’ 1962 - A History of Rock ‘n’ Roll Radio
The word cruisin doesnt appear in the dictionary, but it is a familiar word to millions of people who did it. The new seven-record series on Increase Records - CRUISIN THE FITIES AND SIXTIES is a year by year re-creation of pop music radio during the years 1956 through 1967.
Each album is not just a collection of the top pop music of a particular year, but a total re-creation by a top disc jocket (of that year) doing his original program over a major pop music station.
featuring RUSS "WEIRD BEARD" KNIGHT - FROM KLIF - DALLAS TEXAS
The French joined the nuclear club by e4xploding an A-Bomb in the Sahara - Francis Gary Powers and his U-2 Reconnaissance plane went down in the Soviet Union - Adolph Eichman ws captured in Argentina - Cuba began confiscating American-owned factories on the island - After spending 12 years on Death Row, Caryl Chessman was executed - the first sit-n was held in a Woolworths in North Carolina and John F. Kennedy was elected President.

BILLBOARD 1963 TOP ROCK’N’ROLL HITS Long Out of Print 25 YEARSORIGINAL PRESSINGand one of the last copies left in the world still factory sealed.
Billboard Top Rock & Roll Hits: 1963 offers ten great rock and roll hits that made the radio waves sizzle in 1963. Many of you who heard these tunes first on the radio will love this VINYL MASTERPIECE; and it makes a great introduction to this style of music for younger people as well. The sound quality is very good and the artwork reflects good judgment.
Jimmy Gilmer & The Fireballs start thisLP off with what in retrospect almost sounds like a bubblegum pop hit entitled "Sugar Shack." The beat is quite good and they sing and play this to perfection. Jimmys diction is excellent and it bolsters his performance as he sings this one out strong! "Sugar Shack" is a peppy little number that you may just like more than you think you will.
Jan & Dean weigh in with an awesome hit, "Surf City." Jan & Dean can sometimes sound like The Beach Boys but as always they hold their own very well; the beat is awesome and the background harmonizing is terrific! Listen also for The Chiffons singing their hearts out on "Hes So Fine." The Chiffons sing of the men they love and how much they want to start a romantic relationship with their men.
The Kingsmen turn in a solid hit with "Louie, Louie;" and theres also a major highlight of this album in The Essex as they do "Easier Said Than Done." "Easier Said Than Done" rocks very well for an early rock hit and this impresses me a lot.
Nino Tempo & April Stevens perform what is probably my very favorite song on this album, "Deep Purple." "Deep Purple" has major and minor modulations that are brilliantly done and Nino Tempo & April Stevens never miss a beat! I love that percussion on "Deep Purple," too.
The Beach Boys end the album strong with "Surfin U.S.A." They harmonize and sing this without a superfluous note; and the beat is awesome! The musical arrangement uses the guitars, drums and percussion very well.
Overall, you just have to have thisLP if you love early American rock and roll. TheLP is chock full of hits.
This LP is full of Rock’n’Roll Hall of Fame artists
Billboard 1963 has tracks like
Sugar Shack/Jimmy Gilmer & The Fireballs,
Surf City/Jan & Dean,

NUGGETS 1965 - 68 - Original Artyfacts From The First Psychedelic EraDouble LP set
It all started back in 1971 when music aficionado and future Patti Smith Group guitarist Lenny Kaye lovingly compiled the now-classic (and long out-of-print) two-LP collection called Nuggets: Original Artyfacts From The First Psychedelic Era, 1965-1968 for Elektra Records. During the 80s, Rhino attempted to pick up the ball by releasing their own Nuggets volumes. Now, both Rhino and Kaye combine forces to set the record straight, once and for all. Their new Nuggets box set not only contains the original Kaye-compiled album in its entirety but also completes the picture with essential psychedelic tunes that were left off the first time around. Its guaranteed to give you a "psychotic reaction." | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||

Mitchell Reed, who was one of the mainstays on KMET FM, as well as an extremely important mover and shaker in the city in its prime. Taken from shows of the 1968-1971 period, the CD showcases what FM radio was, as well as its necessity and artful production. Around fabulous (full-length) versions of FM staples by Love ("Alone Again Or"), Donovan Featuring the Jeff Beck Group ("Barabajagal"), and about a dozen other turntable hits, Reed keeps the flow going with smooth, hip, and very honest raps that capture the moment in tact and in real time. Commercials of the era (such as "The Hip Bagel") and news reports only add to the period charm and transport the listener to a very real evening of music and intelligent thought. Like Donahue, Reed started in AM radio, during its loud, fast, mile-a-minute Top 40 heyday. The metamorphosis that he and the audience were going through at the dawn of the 1970s is captured here in all of its glory, making this an exquisite social, spiritual, and political document, not to mention an artistic one as well. |

Its difficult to decide which ones to buy. There are a rare few that are must own, usually the ones on TV BUT VINYL LIKE THIS YOU CAN NEVER FIND ON TV OR AT ANY RECORD STORE IN THE WORLD. Trying to collect the BILLBOARD series, IS A PROCESS THAT CAN BE VERY HARD. Theres no second guessing with this collection-its awesome! The year 1966 was an explosive year in music. The Beach Boys-PET SOUND, The Beatles-REVOLVER, The Byrds-FIFTH DIMENSION were a few of the most valuable albums released. A small sampling of the top singles are collected here. "Im A Believer" is a marvelous opening track, with crystal clear sound quality. All the songs are classic-"Wild Thing", "Soul And Inspiration", "Good Vibrations", just to name a few. Performed by top 1960s bands-The Lovin Spoonful, The Beach Boys, Tommy James, The Righteous Brothers, The Mamas & The Papas. Though every song and band are noteworthy, Id be here for hours describing them. Inside is a time capsule with the top headlines, fads, movies, TV shows, plays, books, and debuts. This 1966 one is excellent way to get terrific songs with great sound. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED Billboard Top Rock & Roll Hits: 1966 has ten great rock and roll hits that really rocked us back in 1966! I like the diversity of the artists on this album and the sound quality is also very good.
Its guaranteed to give you a "psychotic reaction." Track Listings

The Monkees kick it off right with "Im A Believer." This sounds a bit like pop in retrospective but it does rock rather well. The Monkees sings this so well and the melody is very catchy--love that percussion! The Lovin Spoonful continues with "Summer In The City;" this gritty rock tune always worked well and it still sounds very good today, I like the musical arrangement with the drums and percussion; and they sing this great. I really like "Summer In The City."
Tommy James And The Shondells sing a seductive, romantic little number called "Hanky Panky;" gee, I wonder what theyre singing about? Tommy James And The Shondells do this with a lot of energy and the modulations between major and minor keys work so well on "Hanky Panky."
"(Youre My) Soul And Inspiration" comes to us courtesy of The Righteous Brothers; they sing this passionately and the backup vocalists do equally well on this fine number. Listen also for The Mamas & The Papas doing their classic hit "Monday, Monday." "Monday, Monday" features their incredible ability to sing, harmonize and pass along that smooth California sound almost effortlessly.
The Beach Boys follow with "Good Vibrations;" this tune is timeless and it sounds just as grand as the first time I ever heard it. I especially like the middle of the song but it all works very well and "Good Vibrations" is one of the best rock songs ever written.
The Supremes - You Cant Hurry Love - The Four Tops - Reach Out Ill Be there & Nancy Sinatras Those Boots are Made For Walkin. What a year
