First lifetime edition. Constructivist drawings by artists N.Ya. Simonovich-Efimova, V.A. Favorsky and I.S. Efimova. 74 wonderful illustrations in the text. The author of this book is one of the first enthusiasts of puppetry in Russia (1877-1948), a passionate apologist for the Petrushka Theater, and a passionate artist and experimenter Nina Yakovlevna Simonovich-Efimova. Together with her husband she worked on the creation of a Russian puppet theater based on the folk traditions of the Parsley Theater. In 1918, they organized the first Soviet puppet theater and were directors, actors, and artists. They tried to move away from the primitive themes of puppet theater performances and staged works by classical writers. Considering puppet shows to be a theater of moving sculpture, the Efimovs enriched the puppets form and gesture. The plasticity of the Efimovs' works was distinguished by the laconicism of artistic means, clear and distinct form.
